The United States has confirmed to India that future artificial intelligence models will not face abrupt access restrictions, following Washington’s recent national security-based ban on Anthropic’s advanced systems, according to a senior Indian official. Speaking at the “Pax Silica” summit in Washington—a US-led initiative aimed at strengthening China-free AI supply chains—S. Krishnan, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology secretary, emphasized the assurance.
Krishnan stated, “There was an understanding, and officials specifically mentioned that once technology access is granted, it will not be revoked,” as reported by the South China Morning Post. India had previously expressed concerns about potential AI “kill switches” during the summit. Krishnan noted that U.S. authorities were evaluating internal review mechanisms for AI models before their release to address security risks.
In early June, the Trump administration imposed an export control directive restricting foreign nationals from using Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models due to national security concerns. The company subsequently suspended global access to these models without prior notification.
