US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces intercepted two Iranian one-way attack drones over the weekend, which were posing a threat to international maritime traffic in the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. The operation was publicly announced via a post on X/Twitter early Sunday morning.
“American forces remain postured and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression,” CENTCOM stated in its official communication.
Initial assessments revealed that six of the incoming drones were successfully neutralized, while a seventh malfunctioned before achieving its intended target.
Iran’s launch of the drones occurred hours after US forces previously shot down four similar attack drones targeting maritime traffic in the same region.
Following the interception of the drones, the US conducted strikes on Iranian military radar installations located in Goruk and Qeshm Island.
The latest military exchanges come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran to finalize a comprehensive agreement aimed at de-escalating tensions and restoring safe passage for international shipping through the strait.
