US Supreme Court Denies Donald Trump’s Appeal Against $5M Jean Carroll Verdict
The US supreme court declined on Monday to review Donald Trump’s attempt to annull a $5 million verdict that favored former columnist E Jean Carroll.
The decision followed a lower court’s confirmation of the jury’s finding, reinforcing the jury’s judgment. Trump’s team argued the trial was unfair due to improper evidence of past sexual misconduct, but the justices ruled otherwise.
Trump has a long-standing legal battle with Carroll, who accused him of sexual abuse in a 2019 article. He claims she fabricated the allegations during his presidency. Trump maintained that the claims changed over time, with the most recent accusations made in 2022.
After the case reached the highest court, the jury upheld the original verdict. The outcome marks a significant moment in media liability and presidential accountability.
