LONDON, July 13 (Reuters) – The U.S. military will commence enforcement of a maritime blockade against Iran starting Tuesday, according to the U.S. Navy‑led Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC), which announced the measure on Monday.
The blockade will encompass all of Iran’s ports, oil terminals and coastal zones, and will apply to any vessel traffic regardless of flag, effective from 20:00 GMT on July 14, as stated in the center’s advisory.
“Any vessel suspected of entering or leaving the blockaded zone without authorization may be intercepted, diverted, or seized. Non‑compliant ships can be compelled, using force if necessary, under relevant legal authority,” the statement noted.
The center clarified that neutral transit through the Strait of Hormuz toward or away from non‑Iranian destinations will remain unaffected.
