Vancouver’s New Blue Line Hope: Buium’s Breakthrough

Bill Guerin, the Vancouver Canucks’ general manager, initially viewed acquiring Buium as a strategic move to strengthen their blueline. He traded a third-round pick to secure the player at No. 12 in the 2024 draft, believing it would provide long-term stability. However, the plan shifted when Hughes became available in the trade market. Guerin reflected on the decision, stating, “Zeev, I love that kid. He’s a special kid. He’s a special human.” He acknowledged that Vancouver had obtained three quality young players and mentioned that while he was content without Hughes, a trade was necessary to acquire Buium. The Canucks now aim to leverage Buium’s potential for a standout season.
