Vaughan And Tongue Hail Emilio Gay’s Resilient Batting After Near-Century Setback

Former England captain Michael Vaughan remarked that Gay “played nicely” but may rue a missed opportunity to achieve his first Test century, having been dismissed caught behind off a delivery from Razaullah Khan.

“Emilio Gay found his footing early in the innings. Despite a difficult start, he eventually found his rhythm,” Vaughan noted.

“He will be deeply disappointed to fall for 60. He was desperate to secure his first Test century, and I believed it was well within his grasp today.”

“That slight extra pace from Razaullah, combined with a minor lapse in concentration at the end of the day, ultimately cost him.”

England fast bowler Josh Tongue stated that Gay’s rigorous preparation has been instrumental in developing the concentration required for Test cricket.

“The standout quality I have observed in Emilio is his relentless work ethic in the nets. He spends hours batting and dedicates immense effort to his craft, which is now visibly reflected in his performances,” Tongue added.

“Even though he suffered two poor dismissals at Lord’s last week, I felt he played exceptionally well today on a challenging pitch.”

“He was clearly disheartened by his manner of dismissal. Being bowled is never a pleasant experience, but he has positioned the team favorably for tomorrow’s play.”
