Former England captain Michael Vaughan described the 43% rise in ticket prices for next year’s men’s Ashes Test at Edgbaston as “really poor”.
Edgbaston, the Birmingham venue, will stage the third Test of the five‑match series against Australia next summer. Prices in the Hollies Stand, which accommodates close to 6,000 fans, will be £165, up from £115 in 2023.
Elsewhere at the ground, members can buy tickets for £92, although the lowest‑priced adult tickets for the opening three days are £115, each subject to a £2.50 booking fee.
“This is really poor,” Vaughan wrote on social media after the announcement.
After the 2023 series, which finished 2‑2 following Australian victories at Edgbaston and Lord’s, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) noted that every day had sold out in advance, pushing total attendance above 545,000.
An Edgbaston Stadium spokesperson said: “Our 2027 Ashes Test prices are broadly comparable with those at other host grounds and major British sporting events like Wimbledon and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.”
“Our entry‑level ticket prices roughly keep pace with inflation since Australia last played at Edgbaston in 2023, but, like the rest of the country, we are facing rising costs and doing what we can to keep them under control.”
Although Warwickshire’s Edgbaston ground is operating at reduced capacity while an on‑site hotel is being built, tickets for next week’s third Test between England and Pakistan—priced from £57.50 to £87.50 for adults—have yet to sell out.
The ballot for the 2027 Ashes opened on Wednesday, and tickets are dearer at Lord’s and the Oval in London, where the top‑priced seats are £190 and £185 respectively.
Having lost 4‑1 to Australia last winter, England will start their bid to reclaim the Ashes at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on 18 June.
The second Ashes Test at Lord’s gets under way on 30 June, followed by the third match at Edgbaston on 8 July.
The Utilita Bowl in Southampton will become the tenth UK venue to stage a men’s Ashes Test when the fourth match begins on 21 July, with the series wrapping up at the Kia Oval from 29 July.
