Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have lived a fairy‑tale two years. After ending their title drought in 2025, the franchise made history by defending their crown in IPL 2026. Amid the celebrations, rumours surfaced that Virat Kohli might retire from T20 cricket.

Those concerns have now been unequivocally dismissed. RCB chief executive Rajesh Menon told CNBC TV18 that the 37‑year‑old superstar has “at least another four years” left in his IPL career.

Menon said Kohli’s physical conditioning and elite mindset make any talk of retirement premature. “Next three‑four years, I am sure he’ll be playing… for at least four years,” he asserted. “He is fit, the hunger never dies. You saw him this IPL season bring the energy, runs, attitude… everything was there. Three to four years, absolutely no problem.”

This reassurance cements Kohli as RCB’s undisputed first retention as the franchise builds its squad for 2027 and beyond.

Menon’s confidence is backed by data. Rather than slowing down, Kohli has accelerated his T20 game. During the victorious IPL 2026 campaign, he topped RCB’s run‑chart with 675 runs at a striking 165.84 strike rate—the best ever for a single IPL season. In the final, he delivered a masterclass, smashing an unbeaten 75 to help RCB join Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as the only teams with back‑to‑back IPL titles.

With retirement rumours put to rest, the focus now shifts to the future. Backed by consecutive IPL titles and a rejuvenated, aggressive Virat Kohli at the top of the order, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the team to beat. If Menon’s four‑year timeline holds, fans can expect many more masterclasses from the King at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
