Walton Goggins Joins the Cast of Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Miami Vice’ Reboot

The ensemble for Miami Vice ’85 continues to grow as the production builds its vivid depiction of 1980s Florida. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the adaptation of the iconic television series already features Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan in the lead roles, and the supporting cast has seen several high-profile additions in recent weeks. The latest addition is Walton Goggins, who will bring his commanding screen presence to the project—this time in the role of a villain.

Butler and Jordan star as Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, a mismatched pair of vice detectives tasked with dismantling Miami’s criminal underworld during the height of the cocaine epidemic. Crockett is portrayed as a volatile operative living on a houseboat with an alligator, while Tubbs is a hot-tempered former NYPD officer. The duo will clash with a dangerous cartel leader played by John Leguizamo. The expanding cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, Edi Gathegi, and Andrew Schulz.

According to Deadline, Goggins will portray a henchman to Leguizamo’s cartel boss, marking a reunion for the two actors who previously appeared together in American Ultra. Goggins’ casting was finalized after resolving scheduling conflicts with the Prime Video series Fallout, where he stars as the undead gunslinger, the Ghoul. Production is slated to begin in November, with the film currently scheduled for a theatrical release on May 19, 2028.

Where Can Walton Goggins Be Seen Next?

Beyond the upcoming third season of Fallout, Goggins will lend his voice to Hexed, a Disney CG animated feature releasing this November, in which he voices a three-eyed cat named Beef Roger Crumbchuck. His upcoming slate for next year includes the action-comedy Mister, starring alongside Chloë Grace Moretz as a father-daughter pair of assassins, as well as the action-thriller Painter, written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad and co-starring Amber Midthunder.

Miami Vice ’85 arrives in theaters on May 19, 2028.
