[The Strokes and Walton Goggins Deliver SNL Set from ‘Reality Awaits’ Album]

The Strokes took the stage on Saturday Night Live, delivering fresh performances from their latest album while Walton Goggins made a surprising cameo.

The band’s New York indie sound was featured in an episode hosted by Druski, the comedian and social media personality.

The set opened with “Lonely In The Future,” later returning to play “Going Shopping” from their seventh studio effort, “Reality Awaits,” released in July.

During the “Going Shopping” segment, Goggins joined the band on bongos, reviving his earlier collaboration on the song’s music video.

Directed by Johann Rashid, the “Going Shopping” video pays tribute to Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al,” featuring Goggins in Chevy Chase’s iconic role from the 1986 clip.

The surprise cameo had been described by Goggins as a dream come true.

“Never had the audacity to put something like this on my bucket list,” he shared, calling “Reality Awaits” “so gatdamn special.”

This set marked The Strokes’ fifth appearance on SNL, following previous shows in 2002, 2006, 2011, and 2020.

Their most recent visit came during the Halloween 2020 episode, when they performed “The Adults Are Talking” and “Bad Decisions” from their sixth album, “The New Abnormal,” hosted by John Mulaney.

The band is currently touring in support of “Reality Awaits,” their first album in six years, recorded in Costa Rica with producer Rick Rubin.

NME awarded the record four stars, praising the band’s willingness to experiment and concluding they now sound “more alive and locked in than they have in years.”

The group recently concluded their first full UK and Ireland headline tour in over two decades, featuring dates at London’s O2 Arena and shows in Newcastle, Manchester, and Dublin.

Their London performance earned a five‑star review from NME, which noted: “In the 25 years since their first UK show, The Strokes have had their ups and downs, and moments when they seemed reluctant to play together. Right now, though, they’re firmly on a high—doing things their way and sounding as vital as ever.”

Guitarist Nick Valensi has been stepping back from the tour after a temporary break announced in May, with Longwave’s Steve Schiltz filling in his duties.

Valensi made a surprising appearance with Duran Duran in Paris last month, while Casablancas has reaffirmed to fans that the guitarist will return.

Meanwhile, Phoebe Bridgers is slated to be the musical guest on next week’s SNL, performing on November 14 with John Mulaney hosting.
