Singer‑songwriter and guitar virtuoso Wendy Eisenberg has issued a surprise release that expands her recent self‑titled album. The companion work Wweennddyy Eeiisseennbbeerrgg reimagines “Meaning Business” and “The Walls” as sprawling live renditions that together run 46 minutes. The recordings were produced alongside Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn, drummer Ryan Sawyer, and violinist Mari Rubio—also known as More Eaze.
Eisenberg explained her artistic drive: “I want to write songs that feel infinite. I want to write songs that transcend their production, that can weather the changes. It’s probably a holdover from my jazz training, the desire to hear my material in different contexts. A standard sounds different passed through time and hands. This band—Ryan, Mari, and Trevor—can do anything; between them their practices span jazz, metal, country, ambient music, minimalism, and hyperpop, at least. Why not literally stretch them, and my songs, out? I want to feel when a slowed‑down song becomes ambient music, becomes jazz, becomes something else. Experimental music; an experiment. Hopefully not chopped, but definitely a little screwed.”
More Eaze will also join Eisenberg in her new duo band, Whait. Their debut album, Sympathy at Home, is slated for release on February 17 via Night School Records. The group’s first track together, “Falling down,” will be featured alongside the reworks of “Meaning Business” and “The Walls.”
