According to the European climate agency Copernicus, the heatwaves currently affecting Western Europe have resulted in a new June-July temperature record, surpassing the 2022 benchmark. The extreme heat, which began in May, has triggered significant wildfires, prolonged drought conditions, and established new national temperature extremes across the region. Additionally, thousands of heat-related fatalities are projected. On a global scale, this year ranks as the third-hottest to date, following 2024 and 2025, based on climate data analyses.
