WASHINGTON — Officials in the Trump administration celebrated the success of their recent drug pricing initiative last Friday, asserting that every U.S. state had committed to participating in a federal program designed to lower prices for state Medicaid programs.

“It’s such a good deal that every state realized they need to take it,” Mehmet Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, stated during a White House event.

However, officials from several states informed STAT that they remain undecided about participating, even if they technically submitted an application. Furthermore, others are still evaluating whether the federal initiative, known as the GENEROUS model, provides a more favorable deal than the existing rebates they receive from pharmaceutical manufacturers.
