The decentralized finance platform World Liberty Financial announced a WLFI token buyback as a Democratic-led Congress advanced a potential probe into crypto-related ventures tied to President Donald Trump and his family.

World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a decentralized finance, or DeFi, platform, announced a token buyback program. The move comes amid a possible investigation by the Democratic-led Congress into crypto-related business activities associated with President Donald Trump and his family.

World Liberty Financial’s WLFI Token Buyback

On Friday, World Liberty Financial announced a WLFI token buyback program. The company said the initiative is intended to strengthen its ecosystem and governance.

World Liberty Financial said it plans to fund the buyback with an initial allocation that includes fees earned from its USD1 reserves and other sources. The company added that it will evaluate the program over time following the initial allocation.

USD1 is the company’s stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar. According to the report, the stablecoin had a market capitalization of over $3.6 billion and a monthly transfer volume of $15.52 billion at the time of writing, based on RWA.xyz. The token reached an overall valuation of $5.38 billion earlier this year.

BitGo, a digital asset bank and infrastructure provider, issues the stablecoin across seven blockchains, including Solana (SOL), BNB Chain (BNB), Ethereum (ETH), Aptos (APT), Tron (TRX), Monad (MON), and Plume (PLUME).

World Liberty Financial explained that the buyback is meant to encourage participation in WLFI governance and consolidate voting power among its most committed long-term holders. The company also said the measure is part of its long-term strategy to maintain growth while scaling the business.

“We’re building for the long term, alongside the holders who share that vision,” World Liberty Financial said in a post.

Midterm Election Shifts Reshape Congressional Crypto Oversight

Democrats made significant gains in the 2026 midterm elections, winning victories in both the House and Senate. The now-majority Democratic Party has said it will pursue stricter scrutiny of Trump and his family’s crypto dealings heading into the next congressional session, while Republicans prepare for their time in the minority.

Democrats secured at least 54 Senate seats, including wins in Texas, Kansas, South Carolina and others. They also won 249 seats in the House.

According to Anton Golub, head of exchange go-to-market at Forte, the crypto sector spent $125.5 million on Republicans, which was three times more than it spent on Democrats. The GOP nevertheless lost Congress and failed to pass the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act.
