Geopolitical tensions and trade policies elevate Chinese steel imports to Southeast Asia, exacerbating regional production overcapacity

NEW YORK — Emerging indicators point to a significant steel supply surplus in Southeast Asia, according to Edwin Basson, Director General of the World Steel Association, who shared his insights with Nikkei. The region is experiencing a dual pressure of rising domestic production capacity alongside intensified Chinese steel exports, creating precarious market conditions.
