Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump convened at JP Morgan’s headquarters in New York, focusing on potential economic deliverables from their summit while launching a long-anticipated discussion on artificial intelligence safety and governance.
The South China Morning Post reported last week that Washington and Beijing plan to integrate AI talks into the wider economic agenda of the summit.
The two sides had previously agreed in Beijing in May to create an intergovernmental AI dialogue, which operated independently from economic negotiations led by Treasury Secretary Bessent and Commerce Secretary He.
