XRP has climbed 37% in August, positioning it for its strongest month of 2026, though historical patterns suggest September may yield even greater upside.
XRP posted its most powerful rally of 2026 last week following a sluggish start to the month. While momentum has eased this week and the price has retreated slightly, the token remains up almost 37% for August, keeping it on pace for its best monthly performance so far this year.
As August draws to a close, focus shifts to September. The key question is whether XRP can sustain its rally after the late‑month rebound. Analyst EGRAG examined the token’s historical trends to gauge what may lie ahead.
XRP Records One of Its Strongest August Showings
EGRAG notes that XRP’s August 2026 gain of 36.9% far surpasses its typical August average of 2.6%. The month began poorly, with the token dropping over 6.8% to a yearly low of $0.9874 on August 14.
The trend shifted on August 19 as XRP launched a robust recovery. At the time of writing, the token trades near $1.43, reflecting a roughly 37% increase for the month.
This result already places August 2026 among XRP’s top August performances. For reference, August 2021 holds the record with a 58.9% rise, followed by August 2017 at 45.2%.
With a 36.9% increase, August 2026 ranks as XRP’s third‑best August, while August 2023 remains the worst, posting a 26.8% drop.
September Outlook for XRP
EGRAG also examined XRP’s September history to determine if August’s momentum could extend into the next month.
For context, the three strongest September returns occurred in 2018, 2013, and 2016, with gains of 73.4%, 93%, and 56.2% respectively.
Notably, when August finishes with a gain, September has also ended higher about two‑thirds of the time (66.7%). Conversely, when August ends lower, September has followed with a decline roughly 85.7% of the time.
Consequently, a positive August may provide XRP with a statistical edge heading into September. However, EGRAG also highlighted a divergence between even‑ and odd‑year patterns.
Even‑year trends have tended to be mixed, though September has shown strength in certain instances—XRP rose 73.4% in September 2018, 56.2% in September 2016, and 46.3% in September 2022.
Odd years, by contrast, have historically delivered stronger overall performance, with the largest gains typically appearing in May, November, and December.
Why 2026 May Stand Out
EGRAG pointed out an intriguing twist for 2026. Even though 2026 is an even year, XRP has already posted a 36.9% gain in August, making it the third‑best August on record despite the typical mixed performance of even years.
This underscores the importance of the final days of August. If XRP maintains its monthly gain, historical data indicates that September may also have an improved likelihood of closing higher.
Key Price Levels XRP Must Watch
On August 28, XRP traded at $1.43, moving within a 24‑hour band of $1.40 to $1.47. The token has cooled after its recent rally, having risen 46% over the prior week on Bitcoin’s momentum before slipping roughly 6.6% on August 26 to near $1.37. It has since reclaimed ground above $1.40.
Trading volume has also fallen from the $16.87 billion peak seen during the rally, indicating that XRP has entered a consolidation phase after a 107% volume increase in August.
Despite the pullback, the technical outlook remains sound, though the recent advance has pushed XRP into an overextended zone. The 200‑day EMA sits at $1.34, below the current price; staying above this level would help preserve the longer‑term uptrend, with $1.36 marking the first major support threshold.
On the upside, XRP encounters a key resistance band between $1.48 and $1.50; a decisive move above this range could reignite stronger bullish momentum.
