Yemen Government Expands Nationwide Mobilization to Sustain Frontline Forces

The Yemeni government has broadened community assistance for the military and frontlines by mobilizing diverse social groups and provinces to support fighters and deliver essential supplies.

Nayef Al-Bakri, Minister of Youth and Sports and head of the popular support committee, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the body operates under the directives of Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, council members, and the prime minister.

The committee seeks to organize and activate public backing for armed forces and fighters across various frontlines, including the provision of food, petroleum products, fuel, and essential materials required to maintain their positions, he added.

The committee comprises representatives from several ministries, including Interior, Defense, Social Affairs, Transport, Health, and Industry. A broader committee includes representatives from over 15 provinces, aiming to unify popular efforts and strengthen the mobilization state.

Several provinces, including Socotra, are preparing to dispatch relief convoys to battle areas, Al-Bakri revealed.

Community support extends to the health sector through blood donations and provincial blood bank backing. Various social groups have joined the support system, he added.

Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Dhale, Marib, Al-Jawf, and Shabwa are priority frontlines, the minister said.

Taiz is witnessing a “decisive battle,” he stressed.

Regarding whether the support committee would handle preparing youths to join the frontlines, Al-Bakri explained that recruitment falls under the responsibility of military authorities.

The minister stated that the Iran-backed Houthi group threatens Yemen and regional stability, particularly given its “attempts to undermine the security of navigation and regional waters.”

He stressed that Saudi Arabia serves as Yemen’s primary supporter, encompassing all economic, political, and military sectors, in addition to relief and development aid.

Al-Bakri expressed optimism that the Yemeni armed forces would make progress on several fronts, including in Taiz, Kahbub, and Shabwah.
