KARACHI: A 23-year-old married woman died of a suspected drug overdose in Clifton on Sunday morning, according to statements from police and hospital authorities.
Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed informed Dawn that the Boat Basin police transported the body of the deceased, identified as Zeenat, also known as Ayesha, from a private Clifton hospital to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). She had been admitted there the previous night under suspicion of a drug overdose.
Dr Syed noted that a post-mortem examination revealed no signs of physical violence.
“All relevant samples have been collected for chemical analysis, serology and DNA,” she said, adding that the official cause of death would remain pending until all laboratory reports are received.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that police were notified Sunday morning of a woman’s death during treatment at a private hospital, allegedly due to an overdose.
He confirmed the body was moved to JPMC and that her brother’s statement had been recorded.
The DIG stated the brother alleged that Amaish Gul and Rehmat Ullah had administered the narcotic substance to his sister.
He added that a murder case would be filed against those named by the brother.
An unnamed officer reported that the woman’s husband had told police his wife left their Quaidabad home Saturday night with a female friend to attend a local event.
The officer said the two women went to a party at an apartment in Clifton Block-2. After the victim’s condition worsened, two men took her to a private hospital and then left.
Police said further investigations are ongoing.
