QUETTA: The Ziarat superintendent of police (SP) was suspended following a terrorist attack on the Mangi Dam police post, as reported on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, at least nine police personnel, including two station house officers, were killed in the assault, while a clearance operation resulted in the death of 15 suspected terrorists.
Balochistan’s media and political affairs advisor, Shahid Rind, confirmed the SP’s suspension to Dawn and stated that the government had issued a formal notification.
The provincial government established a four-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident.
As per a July 7 notification, the committee was tasked with determining the “complete sequence of events leading to, during, and after the attack,” evaluating security protocols, and assessing the response of law enforcement agencies.
The inquiry will also investigate potential negligence, operational lapses, or failures in command and coordination by security personnel and recommend disciplinary, administrative, or legal actions if applicable.
Additionally, the committee will review the adequacy of security arrangements at Mangi Dam and other critical infrastructure, and propose immediate, medium-term, and long-term measures to enhance protection.
The notice granted the committee authority to request records, summon officials, examine witnesses, inspect sites, and consult experts as needed.
On Tuesday, a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reviewed the law and order situation in Ziarat. He met the families of the martyrs, visited injured individuals, and expressed solidarity with security forces.
The CM emphasized the need to continue operations against terrorists and their supporters decisively, ensuring no opportunity for regrouping. He also instructed law enforcement agencies to coordinate more effectively and act swiftly.
