Zimbabwe Women are gearing up for a landmark assignment as they prepare to face India in a six-match white-ball series, with captain Josephine Nkomo at the helm of a 15-player squad. The touring party remains unchanged from the side that delivered the nation’s maiden ICC Women’s Championship victory, as the team aims to build momentum from that breakthrough. The tour commences with three T20 Internationals on October 16, followed by three ODIs that carry championship points.
Zimbabwe retain historic winning squad for India tour
Zimbabwe have chosen continuity following their memorable four-wicket triumph over the West Indies at Harare Sports Club on September 27. That result marked a watershed moment for the women’s programme, and the selectors have backed the same core group for the country’s first-ever bilateral series against India.
The decision to keep the squad intact allows the players to carry their recent success into a demanding contest against one of the leading forces in international women’s cricket. Nkomo will continue as captain, supported by the experienced Nomvelo Sibanda.
Nyasha Gwanzura is among those poised to draw attention after her pivotal role in the historic win. The bowler claimed career-best figures of 4/33 against the West Indies, and her inclusion alongside Michelle Mavunga and Francisca Chipare bolsters Zimbabwe’s bowling arsenal ahead of the tour.
Batting line-up blends experience with emerging talent
Zimbabwe’s batting unit features Modester Mupachikwa, Sharne Mayers, Beloved Biza and others tasked with delivering competitive performances across both formats. Captain Nkomo will also be a key figure with the bat as the side seeks to sustain the confidence earned from their recent achievement. With an unchanged group, the team can leverage the cohesion and momentum cultivated during the previous campaign.
The six-match itinerary will test Zimbabwe across T20 and 50-over cricket. Consistency across both formats will be essential as the visitors look to establish themselves against India and maximise the opportunity. The tour opens with three T20Is in Raipur starting October 16, before shifting to Vadodara for the ODI series beginning October 23.
While the T20Is offer a chance to measure up against India in the shortest format, the ODIs carry added weight as part of the ICC Women’s Championship, presenting Zimbabwe with a platform to accumulate valuable points. For Nkomo’s side, the tour represents an opportunity to convert a historic breakthrough into sustained progress. Retaining the squad that toppled the West Indies underscores Zimbabwe’s belief in the players who delivered that landmark result.
