< p>Last month, Phoebe Bridgers released her highly anticipated follow‑up to Punisher, titled Lost Weekend, which attracted attention for its roster of collaborators. Among them was Justin Broadrick of Godflesh and Jesu. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Broadrick said a new collaboration with Bridgers is forthcoming.
< p>The article notes that Broadrick remixed Julien Baker’s song “Favor” (a boygenius member) in 2021 while Bridgers provided backing vocals. More recently, Bridgers emailed him requesting “Jesu‑style” contributions for Lost Weekend. He recalled thinking, “I thought I was being scammed,” before playing guitar on the track “Bobby” and contributing to the hidden song “Best Dressed,” which is only available on physical editions.
< p>When asked about his nerves, Broadrick said that Bridgers’ personable nature and immediate friendship eased his concerns, though he felt overwhelmed by her stature, noting he was sending music to Taylor Swift’s personal engineer. He described being thrust into the mainstream and questioned how he arrived there. He added that Bridgers asked him to play guitar and bass on a song for an upcoming film and that she has repeatedly reached out to him.
Speaking of films, The Hollywood Reporter recently published a feature on Primetime, the upcoming Lance Oppenheim picture inspired by To Catch a Predator and starring Bridgers. THR states that Bridgers plays a decoy who alternates between male and female roles. The director said he has known Bridgers since before her rise to fame and described her deep speaking voice and angelic singing voice as perfect for the decoy role, recalling that he messaged her, “This is so random, but I think you are perfect for this part,” to which she replied that she has never acted.
