The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback situation has been resolved after only one week.
Coach Kevin O’Connell announced Monday that Kyler Murray cleared the concussion protocol and is set to start Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Murray suffered the injury on the third drive of Minnesota’s season-opening win over the Green Bay Packers, forcing him to leave the game and placing him in the league’s protocol.
The 29-year-old participated in only limited practices and was ruled out of Minnesota’s 9-3 Week 2 victory over the Chicago Bears, which was led by backup Carson Wentz.
Thanks to Wentz’s performance, the Vikings currently lead the NFC North with two division wins.
Murray’s ability to practice at all offered encouragement for Minnesota as it prepares to travel to Tampa Bay and improve on its 2-0 start.
Throughout his NFL career, Murray has dealt with various injuries that have cost him time on the sideline.
An Oklahoma product, Murray enjoyed two healthy seasons to begin his career before injury problems began to mount.
He missed three games in 2021, six in 2022, nine in 2023 and 12 in 2025 after suffering a foot injury.
After playing Tampa Bay, the Vikings will host the Miami Dolphins at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 4.
Minnesota then travels to New Orleans for a Week 5 matchup.
The Vikings will look to Murray to regain his form and lead them to the playoffs after falling short in 2025.
