Noel Gallagher appears as a guest on the final series of Chicken Shop Date, discussing the Oasis reunion, the complexities of working with a sibling, and the evolving meaning behind the band’s classic tracks. The guitarist and songwriter joined host Amelia Dimoldenberg at Sam’s Chicken in Harlesden, London, for a wide-ranging conversation.
When asked how long one should wait before reviving a project, Gallagher replied, “16 years,” referencing the gap between Oasis’ split and their 2025 reunion tour. “When you revive [Chicken Shop Date], get me back on,” he added. Dimoldenberg quipped, “Well, you might not be around,” to which Gallagher retorted, “In 16 years? What are you trying to say? That’s not very nice.”
On what makes a comeback feel natural rather than desperate, Gallagher said: “You’ve just got to hope that you can do whatever it is you’re trying to do as well as you once did it. And in the case of Oasis, it became apparent after maybe a week in rehearsals that it was gonna be as good, if not better, than it ever was.”
Regarding advice for working alongside a brother or sister, he offered: “I think you’ve got to be prepared just to compromise, which is something I’m not ordinarily very good at. But I think it gets better as you get older.”
Gallagher also teased that he has “tonnes of unreleased material,” though he did not specify whether it was intended for Oasis.
The musician reflected on how his perception of the Live ’25 closer “Champagne Supernova” has shifted over the decades: “It was nonsensical in the ’90s, and then it’s taken on more meaning for a new generation. I mean, I’ve still no idea what ‘Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball’ means. I think it’s a drug reference.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Gallagher criticised vegetarians and vegans, addressed rumours about his stage attire, described himself as a “low-key” rock star, and shared what keeps him grounded. Recalling a moment after a São Paulo show for 90,000 people, he said: “We arrived home on a Tuesday morning, and I came down to find my two lads both arguing over what was left in a box of Coco Pops. And I thought to myself, ’48 hours ago I was on stage in São Paulo — the world was in my hands, and now I’m arguing with two bellends about Coco Pops’.”
Gallagher also spoke about his relationship with previous Chicken Shop Date guest Paul McCartney (“He calls me Nolo”), Manchester City’s recent victory over Manchester United, and revealed he once “bought a life-size cardboard cutout” of Matthew McConaughey. The conversation later touched on his Gemini star sign — “a superior being,” in his words — and the origins of the name High Flying Birds.

The documentary film Don’t Look Back In Anger was released in cinemas on September 9 and is now streaming on Disney+. In a four-and-a-half-star review, NME described the movie as “masterfully done, with moments of irreverence and intense passion burning throughout.”
NME spoke to Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight about the project. “The question I wanted to answer with this film was: why, after 16 years with no promotion and no marketing, is this music bigger than it’s ever been?” he said.
The film’s directors, Will Southern and Dylan Lovelace, also discussed the production. “It’s shot for spectacle and to put you right in the middle of the crowd,” Southern explained. “If people can watch it on the biggest screen possible, as loud as the cinema is prepared to play it, then they’re going to have a good time!”
Additionally, the filmmakers have explained why the documentary does not depict how Noel and Liam Gallagher reconciled after their long-running feud.
