Germany delivered a stunning defeat to World Cup debutants Curaçao at Houston Stadium.
The four-time champions began ominously, with Felix Nmecha linking up with Florian Wirtz to drill a first-time finish into the far corner for the opener.
Curaçao, the tiniest nation by size and population ever to appear at a World Cup, were already heavy underdogs against the 2014 champions, and within six minutes any hope of a positive result seemed all but gone.
Curaçao had scarcely touched the ball when defensive lapses let Livano Comenencia slip a deflected shot past the outstretched Manuel Neuer, prompting celebrations among the fans.
The joy was brief. Nico Schlotterbeck headed in unmarked from a corner, then Kai Havertz converted a penalty after Riechedly Bazoer fouled Nmecha, giving Germany a commanding halftime lead.
Matters deteriorated for Curaçao as Jamal Musiala pounced on a Joshua Kimmich through‑ball and fired low into the corner shortly after the restart.
Nathaniel Brown scored on his World Cup debut with a composed volley, and substitute Deniz Undav added a sixth German goal from close range.
Havertz completed his brace late in the match, leaving Curaçao to contemplate a heavy defeat.
Germany now leads Group E, while Curaçao prepares for a crucial clash with Ecuador on June 20.
