Rangers have confirmed that Danny Rohl has left the club after eight months in charge, with the German set to become Red Bull Salzburg head coach as the Ibrox side prepares to announce his replacement.
Hearts manager Derek McInnes is widely expected to be in the frame to succeed Rohl, with Rangers poised to appoint their third head coach in 12 months.
Rohl, 37, took over from Russell Martin in October and guided Rangers into a three-way title race. However, a collapse after the Scottish Premiership split saw the club finish third behind Celtic and Hearts, ending the season without a trophy.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh had publicly backed Rohl at the end of the campaign, but the German has now returned to the Red Bull network, where he began his coaching career at RB Leipzig under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
“I would like to thank Danny for his service and commitment to Rangers,” Cavenagh said.
“He and his staff put in a significant amount of hard work during his time in charge, which we are greatly appreciative of.
“We wish them the best of luck moving forward.”
Rohl, who had two years remaining on his contract, leaves to take charge of Salzburg after they finished third in Austria last season, their lowest league position in 20 years. The club will enter the Europa League at the third qualifying round, the same stage as Rangers.
Daniel Beichler was dismissed as Salzburg head coach last month after just 14 games in charge.
Rohl joined Hasenhuttl at Southampton in 2018 before moving to Bayern Munich as assistant to Hansi Flick, where he helped the club win the Bundesliga. He was later appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager in 2023.
