Amazon Prime Video has decided not to extend the animated series Kevin, which follows a cat who moves into a pet rescue in Queens after his human owners separate and forms bonds with other animals, according to co‑creator Aubrey Plaza.
Plaza announced the news on Instagram Saturday, describing the decision as “very disappointing since we were just getting going.” She thanked fans and the creative team for their efforts, reflecting on early challenges she faced during the Parks & Recreation era and the support received from network executives.
“I also wish to express gratitude to everyone who watched the show and to the incredible cast and crew who brought this dream to life,” Plaza said. “I recall the early days of Parks & Rec when we feared cancellation because of low ratings, yet some NBC insiders believed in the show and let us grow. I hope the final outcome doesn’t undermine the hard work invested.”
Plaza added that the changing landscape of television makes it difficult to secure longevity, hoping that “the machines won’t ruin everything” and that the series may find a new home someday. “Love you all very much. Meow,” she concluded.
The series was co‑created by Plaza and showrunner Joe Wengert, with Jason Schwartzman voicing the titular cat. Additional voice talent included Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, Amy Sedaris and Aparna Nancherla.
All eight episodes premiered on Prime Video on April 20. Plaza also served as executive producer alongside Dan Murphy, Chris Prynoski, Ben Kalina, Shannon Prynoski and Antonio Canobbio. The project was produced by Titmouse, Evil Hag Productions and Amazon MGM Studio.
