TEHRAN, Iran — Two Islamic State members were executed following their conviction for armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic, as reported by Iranian state television on Tuesday.
The report identified the executed individuals as Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani, noting they were part of an Islamic State cell that emerged after the group’s territorial losses in Iraq and Syria and had been planning attacks within Iran.
According to the report, Iranian security forces located the cell’s hideout in the Bamo mountain region near the Iraqi border, thwarting their planned attacks. During the ensuing operation, several militants were killed and others apprehended, while three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also lost their lives. Authorities confirmed the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and other equipment.
The two men were convicted of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic and subsequently hanged after the Supreme Court affirmed their death sentences. The judiciary did not disclose the location of the executions.
