For the past year, a small California startup has been touting its technology as a possible treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and potentially other genetic disorders.
The company, Sonothera, lacks clinical data but has presented animal studies that have left many experts astonished.
“I find it hard to believe,” said Eric Olson, chair of molecular biology at UT‑Southwestern Medical Center. “It seems a bit too good to be true,” added Jeffrey Chamberlain, a veteran Duchenne gene‑therapy researcher at the University of Washington.
