A family has raised concerns about the preventability of a fatal incident involving a rider on a Six Flags roller coaster.
Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, who rode the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia near Atlanta, was ejected from the attraction while his niece celebrated her birthday with him. A relative recounted the tragic event to WSB‑TV.
“Although a freak occurrence may explain what happened, my brother‑in‑law, Joshua Nelson, admits doubts about whether the outcome could have been avoided.”
Nelson, whose daughter sat nearby, recounted the harrowing sequence of events leading to the accident.
According to Nelson, her words described how Kariem reportedly fainted or seemed to pass out, then the ride rose repeatedly until the restraint finally gave way, causing him to fall.
While celebrating the occasion, Kariem showed enthusiasm for the Goliath, one of his beloved attractions, as reported by Nelson.
Nelson expressed hope that his uncle experienced minimal pain at the moment of his death.
Kariem was a technology‑oriented educator and father of a ten‑year‑old, having started his career at Wesley International Academy as a technology teacher before advancing to an information‑technology manager.
Investigations from the Cobb County Major Crimes Unit are ongoing as of Friday, with authorities probing the circumstances of Kariem’s death at Six Flags Over Georgia.
In response, Six Flags temporarily closed nine roller coasters at six U.S. amusement parks.
