The Miami Dolphins face a potentially lengthy absence of one of their most explosive weapons after falling 24-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Head coach Jeff Hafley provided a bleak assessment of running back De’Von Achane’s knee injury, stating the outlook “does not sound optimistic,” per NFL Network.
Achane left Sunday’s Week 3 home opener in the first quarter following an awkward tackle by safety Alohi Gilman on an 11-yard rushing attempt. Initially listed as questionable, he was taken to the blue medical tent and ultimately ruled out for the rest of the contest.
The 2023 third-round pick managed only 17 yards on three carries before exiting. Second-year back Ollie Gordon assumed the lead role in the backfield for Miami.
Hafley’s remarks are troubling for a Dolphins squad where Achane has emerged as the focal point of the offense during a rebuilding phase. The injury is a recurrence of knee troubles for the playmaker, who missed five games as a rookie in 2023 with a similar issue.
Achane entered the game leading the team with 31 carries for 110 yards, while the remaining Dolphins combined for just 16 carries and 66 yards. He secured a four-year, $64 million extension this offseason after posting career highs of 1,350 rushing yards and 1,838 scrimmage yards in 2023.
Miami next travels to Minnesota to face the Vikings in Week 4.
