A new report details the significant financial toll the Fight Forever video game has taken on All Elite Wrestling.
AEW released the title in June 2023 following repeated expressions of interest from Tony Khan in expanding into the gaming sector. However, a sequel has yet to materialize, largely due to what sources describe as a catastrophic commercial performance.
According to Mike Straw, executive editor of Insider Gaming, the promotion lost a minimum of $30 million on the project. In a recent YouTube video, Straw attributed the deficit to extensive development delays and sales figures that fell drastically short of internal projections.
Originally slated for a 2022 launch, the game saw its release pushed back to June 29, 2023, due to a combination of internal and external setbacks. Straw reported that Fight Forever ultimately sold roughly half the units AEW had forecasted.
“We sold about half of what we were expecting, leading to a big reason why we lost so much,” Straw noted.
Straw further indicated that AEW no longer maintains a partnership with developer Yuke’s, though the promotion reportedly retains ownership of the game engine and has allegedly begun exploring alternative studios for a future wrestling title. When Straw contacted AEW sources to verify these developments, he was told they did not “f**king know anything about it.”
