Airtel Africa has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing customer experience by continuously investing in network infrastructure, advanced technologies, and strategic partnerships. These initiatives aim to expand network coverage and capacity across its fourteen operational markets.
Serving 183.5 million customers, the telecommunications group stated that these investments are crucial for strengthening connectivity and fostering digital and financial inclusion across the continent.
This commitment was announced as Airtel Africa joined the global celebration of Customer Service Week 2026, which took place under the theme “The Extra Mile.”
Sunil Taldar, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa, explained that the theme reflects the company’s core commitment to understanding and adapting to the evolving needs of its customers.
“The theme of this year’s events, ‘The Extra Mile,’ aligns with our unwavering commitment to go above and beyond for our customers. We strive to transform their experience through active listening, continuous learning, and prompt action on their feedback and expectations,” Taldar stated.
He emphasized that the company is leveraging digitalization and expanded connectivity to unlock opportunities for individuals, businesses, and economies throughout Africa.
“By digitizing our services and broadening access to connectivity, we are helping to unlock extraordinary opportunities for people, businesses, and economies across the continent,” he added.
Taldar highlighted Airtel Africa’s recent commercial deployment of direct-to-device satellite technology in underserved rural areas as a key example of extending connectivity beyond traditional mobile infrastructure.
This innovative technology enables customers with compatible smartphones to stay connected in remote areas beyond the reach of terrestrial networks, as long as they have a clear line of sight to the sky.
Over the past year, Airtel Africa has expanded its infrastructure by adding over 3,250 new network sites and deploying approximately 3,200 kilometers of fiber optic cables, alongside investments in retail outlets and other distribution channels.
The company has also increased its utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) to elevate the digital customer experience and optimize service delivery.
Key among these initiatives is the AI-powered Spam Alert, a free service for Airtel subscribers that identifies and blocks suspected spam SMS messages while providing real-time warnings.
The company noted that this service is designed to protect customers from spam and potentially fraudulent messages.
Airtel Africa announced that its employees will join frontline teams across its fourteen markets during Customer Service Week to engage directly with customers and gather valuable feedback on their experiences.
This direct engagement is expected to help the company identify key areas for improving service reliability and quality.
Taldar explained that the company’s customer service strategy is rooted in continuous listening and agile adaptation.
The company stated that its investments in network infrastructure, fiber optics, AI, and next-generation connectivity technologies are central to its broader strategy of improving service reliability while expanding digital access across the continent.
With a base of 183.5 million customers across its markets, Airtel Africa pledged to continue investing in technology and strategic partnerships to expand coverage, boost network capacity, and support digital and financial inclusion.
