(RTTNews) – Alstom SA (ALO.PA, AOMFF.PK) announced the signing of an agreement with VIA Rail Canada to design, engineer, manufacture, and support a new Long-Distance, Regional and Remote (LDRR) fleet for passenger rail services throughout Canada.
The French rail transport systems manufacturer confirmed that the agreement includes the delivery of 313 Adessia railway cars, valued at approximately C$4 billion. It also encompasses a 15-year Technical Support and Spare Parts Supply Agreement (TSSSA) worth close to C$700 million. The total contract value stands at approximately C$4.7 billion, equivalent to 3 billion euros.
According to Alstom SA, the new fleet will replace VIA Rail Canada’s current long-distance rolling stock and will operate across eight major routes. These services will connect destinations including Montréal, Halifax, Gaspé, Jonquière, Senneterre, Toronto, Vancouver, Churchill, Prince Rupert, Jasper, Sudbury, and White River, as detailed in an official company statement.
The company indicated that project design and engineering activities will be conducted at Alstom’s facility in St-Bruno-de-Montarville, Québec. Carbody manufacturing will be handled in La Pocatière, Québec, while final assembly will take place in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
On the Paris Exchange, ALO.PA concluded Thursday’s trading session at 16.18 euros, rising by 0.50 euros or 3.2 percent.
