Irving has outlined his meticulous preparation routine ahead of the heavyweight world title bout.
“For a world title fight, you must ensure everything is prepared—your uniform, pens, scorecard, towel, and water,” he stated.
“You must remain hydrated because conditions could be warm, and the fight could go the full distance of 10 rounds, which can be incredibly tiring.”
“I will be prepared. I always do a bit of training and keep myself right eating wise,” he added.
“I can assure everyone that I will be ready, no matter how big the fight is or how significant the occasion. I am just looking forward to getting in there and hoping it all goes according to plan.”
The Belfast referee added that preparing for all potential scenarios, including those that may not be anticipated, is an essential part of being fight-ready.
“The unexpected is what being a referee is all about. That part of me is always ready to go. That is where my confidence and experience come in—they trust me to make it an equal and smooth competition, and may the best person win.”
“You will be nervous; that is simply the nature of boxing—it is the unexpected.”
“If you are a boxer, you go out to box with your programme in mind. You have done your work and you are ready to go.”
“Refereeing is just the same. I have done my work, kept myself together, and put in a lot of effort. I do a lot of remote scoring, keep myself sharp, look for the unexpected, and aim to be as quick as I can when it happens.”
