Andrew Savage has officially launched his new band, Iconic Fugues, introducing its breakout single “2025 Dream/2025 Blues.” The Parquet Courts frontman describes the project as resonating with anyone who has navigated both fleeting joys and lingering sorrows over the past year. Below is the flagship track of the release.
According to Savage, “2025 Dream/2025 Blues” is “about a guy who wakes up from a dream only to be confronted with a series of increasingly consequential, harsh realities.” Despite that dirge‑like synopsis, he does not view the song as a disappointment. “As I write this all out it sounds bleak, but I don’t find it to be a bleak song. I think it’s just amazing the way a fun guitar solo can draw a bit of sun out from behind the clouds.”
Iconic Fugues coalesced shortly after Savage returned from his latest solo effort, Several Songs About Fire (2023). The formation remains fluid, as Savage told Shaad Magazine, and a recent performance by the Marseille‑based group featured his Several Songs About Fire collaborator Dylan Hadley alongside psych‑rock veteran Santiago Aldunate of Hantayo.
“There’s a difference between a solo record and a band record that I can’t quite pinpoint, but it’s instinctively recognizable once heard,” he added in conversation with Shaad. “My residency in France spans four years, including nearly three spent in Marseille, where personal networks have expanded. Consequently, I chose a new name—Parquet Courts—to signal this shift. Although the ensemble isn’t fully defined yet, Parquet Courts continues to exist.”
