Arab-Islamic Coalition Denounces Somaliland’s Jerusalem Embassy Plan
A coalition of fifteen Arab and Islamic nations has jointly rejected Somaliland’s reported plans to establish a “so-called embassy” in occupied Jerusalem, labeling it a “flagrant violation” of international law and United Nations resolutions.
The statement, released by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was endorsed by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Mauritania.
The ministers condemned Somaliland’s “illegal and unacceptable” move, noting that Somaliland is not internationally recognized as a sovereign state.
The statement asserted that establishing such a mission in occupied Jerusalem would constitute “a flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions” and would undermine the city’s legal and historical status.
The nations reaffirmed their opposition to any unilateral actions aimed at altering the status quo in occupied Jerusalem or legitimizing arrangements deemed contrary to international law.
They also reiterated that East Jerusalem remains occupied Palestinian territory and that any attempts to change its legal or historical status are “null and void.”
Additionally, the statement emphasized full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, rejecting any unilateral steps perceived as undermining Somali sovereignty.
