Arsenal has stepped up its pursuit of Julian Alvarez, announcing it is prepared to attach the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres to any offer for the Argentine forward. According to Gary Jacob of The Times, the club is willing to package Gyokeres as a key component in securing the squad’s star striker from Atletico Madrid.

The move stems from Mikel Arteta, who reportedly requested the club’s hierarchy to target Alvarez this summer after a missed bid for Morgan Rogers proved unsuccessful.

The 23‑year‑old who joined Chelsea last season for a then‑club‑record fee chose the Blues instead. That setback has sharpened Arteta’s focus on Alvarez as a priority sign – a forward who could add a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack.

Including Gyokeres in the proposal signals the depth of Arsenal’s ambition. The Swedish forward, who joined the club from Sporting CP roughly a year ago for an amount comparable to his current valuation of around €65 million, emerged as Arsenal’s top scorer last season.

He continued his form into the 2026 World Cup with Argentina, scoring only once but providing a decisive extra‑time strike that secured a 3‑1 quarter‑final victory over Switzerland.

Gyokeres closed his inaugural North London season as Arsenal’s leading scorer, with 21 goals across 55 games in all competitions, including 14 in 36 Premier League appearances.
