Designated hitter Yordan Alvarez delivered a game-winning two-run home run in the ninth inning, securing a 10-8 victory for the Houston Astros and ending Tampa Bay Ray’s nine-game winning streak.
Alvarez plated Jose Altuve with his 29th home run of the season and second of the game with no outs in the ninth inning. He smacked a 1-2 fastball from Rays reliever Casey Legumina (2-2) 424 feet to straightaway center field, marking a turning point in the matchup.
The Astros rallied from a five-run deficit, aided by a three-run seventh inning featuring Alvarez’s sacrifice fly, Isaac Paredes’ RBI single, and Zach Dezenzo’s pinch-hit RBI. Tampa Bay’s early lead stemmed from Junior Caminero’s homer, his 11th in 11 games.
Neither Houston’s Hunter Brown (7.00 ERA) nor Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen (5.40 ERA) performed effectively. Brown allowed seven runs on six hits over four innings, while Rasmussen surrendered five runs on six hits across five innings.
