At least 12 people are dead and dozens are missing after a vessel carrying traders capsized on Lake Kivu in eastern Congo, authorities reported on Sunday.
The boat, which was carrying more than 50 passengers, went down on Saturday night in the Idjwi territory of South Kivu province, according to Félix Habiragi, chief of the village of Kisheke near the accident site.
He added that approximately 15 individuals have been rescued, and the cause of the disaster remains unknown at this time.
