A pivotal character hidden in the shadows of the Naruto universe is now playable. Bandai Namco has rolled out a surprise free update for Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, introducing Nanashi Uchiha as a new fighter.

The game integrates two distinct experiences: History Mode, which condenses the original Naruto saga, and Special Story Mode, featuring an original arc centered on Boruto. With over 130 playable shinobi, it currently offers the series’ largest roster. This update marks a milestone by granting players control over Nanashi, a character previously seen only through cutscenes.

Nanashi’s tale unfolds through her Mangekyo Sharingan, a trait that made her a weapon for the Uchiha Clan. Abandoned and hardened by trauma, she was manipulated by the criminal group Zero to undermine the ninja world. In the game’s narrative, she becomes an undercover guide in Ninja Heroes, bonding with Boruto before her betrayal contributes to the Fifth Great Ninja War. Their conflict peaks when Boruto confronts her actions, leading to a climactic battle.

Combat-wise, Nanashi wields Fire Style jutsu, specializing in eye-based techniques like Tsukuyomi and Flame Control. Her Mangekyo Sharingan and ability Yachihoko enable her to mark opponents, absorb their chakra, and deploy devastating genjutsu and ninjutsu. Her enhanced form grants further tactical advantages in battle.

Beyond Nanashi, the update revives the suspended Ninja Battle mode and increases the proficiency level cap from 99 to 130. Players can now earn proficiency points ten times faster through new events and unlock achievements via Special Challenges. Balance adjustments across the roster also refine gameplay mechanics. Full patch notes are available on the official site.

Future updates are planned for winter and spring 2026, including a spring addition of another playable character (unnamed) and expanded online features. Current digital versions of the game are discounted on Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store, though discounts vary by platform.
