Monday night in Seattle, two NFC playoff hopefuls from 2025 faced off, with the Bears emerging victorious by a 34-17 margin over the defending Super Bowl champions.
Seattle briefly narrowed the deficit to three points early in the fourth quarter, but a 39-yard screen pass to Kalif Raymond converted a critical Bears third down on the ensuing drive, shifting momentum decisively. The Bears outgained the Seahawks by 111 yards, and their defense stifled Seattle, stopping 10 of 11 third-down attempts. The result was so comprehensive that Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald admitted there was “no other way to sugarcoat” the defeat.
Seahawks kicker Jason Myers contributed to the team’s struggles by missing an extra point and having a field goal blocked, while several personal fouls further compounded Seattle’s difficulties on a night when the Bears demonstrated superiority in all areas.
“They made it happen, and we didn’t,” Macdonald said via the team’s website. “It was a team effort; we lost as a whole. In all three phases, we can coach better, prepare better, and play better. The margins in this league are slim, and when you fall short of what it takes to win, that’s the result. We’ll go back to work and attack it.”
Seattle’s earlier victory over Kansas City in Week 7 suggested momentum, but Monday’s result represented a step back that highlights their 4-4 standing this season. Falling to another NFC contender at home stings all the more, and Macdonald acknowledged the Seahawks “have some work to do” if they hope to remain in the playoff hunt later this year.
