Bill Hader’s transition from television directing to feature filmmaking has been highly anticipated since his acclaimed work on “Barry.” That anticipation builds as Hader prepares to release his horror debut “They Know” in 2027, with details of his directorial approach coming sooner at IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles.
Hader will participate in “What No One Tells You About Directing Your First Feature,” a one-on-one conversation offering insights into his filmmaking career and the lessons he has drawn from his upcoming feature.
“They Know” follows a divorced father who grows suspicious of his ex-wife’s new boyfriend and the effect he has on their children. Co-written by Hader and “Barry” writer Duffy Boudreau, the film also stars Linda Cardellini, Lilou Lang, and Lorelei Olivia Mote.
Hader joins a notable lineup that includes Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who will deliver a keynote on “Project Hail Mary,” and Curry Barker, writer, director, and editor of “Obsession,” who will receive the inaugural Future of Filmmaking Award.
IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit takes place on Saturday, October 17 at Penske Media’s Lumen West LA headquarters. The all-day event features panels and networking opportunities focused on the ideas, people, technology, and skills shaping contemporary storytelling, with additional programming to be announced.
