Boult Flags KL Rahul and Jaiswal as India’s Test Matchmakers Ahead of New Zealand Series

India is set to resume Test cricket with a two-match series against New Zealand starting November 19. The tour is part of a packed schedule beginning October 22, spanning three formats across 12 matches, and coincides with centenary celebrations of 100 years of sporting ties between the two nations.

New Zealand pace bowler Trent Boult, who has claimed 317 Test wickets at 37, pinpointed KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two Indian batters central to the contest. He emphasized that India’s opening partnership and top-order batting will be key areas tested during the series.

“I’m always a big fan of KL Rahul and his style of batsmanship. So he’s a big player at the top of the order for the Indian side. And yeah, I believe Jaiswal is there as well. Two classy batters to see bat. So yeah, be interesting to see,” Boult was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Why Rahul and Jaiswal matter to Boult

Rahul, India’s Test vice-captain, will anchor the batting lineup, while Jaiswal, at 24, has firmly established himself as a core member of the Test side. Both will face a New Zealand attack that Boult considers well-suited to local conditions. The Rotorua-born bowler also outlined the balance in New Zealand’s pace bowling resources.

“The only thing I can see happening is it’s going to be late October. I believe, just coming out of winter. So it’s going to be quite cold. Hopefully, there’s a bit of greenness in the wickets for some of our bowlers. It’s going to be a good series, I’m sure,” Trent said.

“I think the bowling is very well balanced. It’s got bases covered in terms of a good pace, obviously, with Will O’Rourke. Obviously, a bit of swing and a bit of bounce from Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry with his accuracy,” he added.

India will look to clinch both Test victories to strengthen their World Test Championship standing. The series is a significant fixture in India’s Test calendar as the team prepares for upcoming championship challenges, and offers a chance to avenge their home series loss to New Zealand in 2024.
