Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea reported for mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, avoiding a $107,911 fine, but did not participate in on-field drills. NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reports the absence is contract-related.
Vea, 31, is entering the final year of the four-year, $71 million extension he signed in January 2022. He is scheduled to earn a $17 million base salary in 2026, an annual average of $17.75 million that currently ranks 19th among defensive tackles.
Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Vea is healthy but indicated the team is comfortable keeping him off the field for now. “We don’t need to see him right now,” Bowles said, via JoeBucsFan.com.
