Buttigieg’s Children Temporarily Separated After False Child Protective Services Report]
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg revealed that he was briefly separated from his children following a false anonymous report to child protective services.
According to Buttigieg, an anonymous caller claimed to have spoken with a woman who alleged she met him at a conference in Alabama several years ago, during which she said he made threatening statements about committing violent crimes. The caller reportedly believed the children were still at risk.
The responding officer determined the report was politically motivated and declined to refer the case to prosecutors. Michigan State Police confirmed to the BBC that they and Child Protective Services investigated an anonymous report this week and determined it was false.
In a statement, Buttigieg wrote that law enforcement resources were “wasted in a cruel, politically motivated hoax that harmed our family.” State police described false reports as “dangerous” and said they divert critical resources from legitimate emergencies involving vulnerable children and families.
Buttigieg noted this incident occurred shortly after sharing Father’s Day photos on social media and highlighted that it took place during Pride Month. He stated, “We’re used to nasty, hateful, and sometimes violent things being said about us and even about our family, but this is the first time someone managed to invade our lives like this—and drag our children into it.”
Buttigieg and his husband adopted fraternal twins Joseph August and Penelope Rose in 2021.
