CBI Reopens Investigation into 2020 Death of Bollywood Celebrity Manager

A major criticism from the court was that police treated the case merely as a suspicious death without filing a First Information Report (FIR), which is mandatory for crime investigations.

While Satish Salian’s accusations remain allegations, they have prompted the CBI to launch a new investigation, registering an FIR based on his written complaint.

The BBC has examined the FIR and reviewed the court order related to the case.

According to the court order summarizing Salian’s allegations, Disha was employed by Kwan Entertainment, a celebrity management firm, and was representing actor Sushant Singh Rajput at the time of her death.

The order stated that she discovered improper activities by influential individuals, informed Rajput, who inadvertently shared it, leading to her murder to suppress the information.

Rajput expressed grief over her death in an Instagram story, offering condolences to her family and friends.

Initially, Disha’s death received little attention until Rajput was found dead in his home less than a week later.

Police concluded that his death was a suicide, citing mental health issues for which he was receiving treatment.

However, weeks later, his actress girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty was arrested after Rajput’s father accused her of contributing to his suicide, denying that his son had mental health problems.

Amid public outcry, Sushant’s case was transferred to the CBI, which closed it last year, confirming his suicide and clearing Chakraborty and her family of involvement.

In the FIR registered with the CBI, Salian alleges that the deaths of Disha and Rajput are connected.
