Celtic Secure Colombian Striker Camilo Duran in Significant Summer Acquisition

Celtic have completed the signing of 24-year-old forward Camilo Duran from Qarabag, marking their first summer acquisition in a deal valued at approximately £6 million. The Colombian talisman emerged as a top target for the Hoops after an impressive campaign with the Azerbaijan club, where he demonstrated his prowess both domestically and in European competition.

Duran, who previously played for Portimonense before joining Qarabag, found the net 15 times last season, including five goals in UEFA Champions League fixtures. According to former Tottenham striker and pundit Chris Sutton, Celtic may require over £50 million in restructuring to maintain their title competitiveness and sustain Champions League participation. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Sutton highlighted that while Martin O’Neill’s side achieved an extraordinary run to clinch the Premiership, significant squad adjustments are necessary. He noted, “The Champions League qualifiers are crucial, and despite their late-season surge, Celtic’s performances were inconsistent throughout the campaign. The manager will likely seek to strengthen key positions.”

Sutton further suggested that key players like Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, and Arne Engels may depart, necessitating strategic reinforcements. “Who will replace these influential figures? Celtic might need to invest above £50 million to remain competitive,” he concluded.
