Chelsea could return for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during the winter transfer window.
The Blues were determined to land the Senegal international on deadline day following the sale of Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea reached a verbal agreement with Monaco for his services, but the Ligue 1 club cancelled the deal at the final hurdle.
Monaco only wanted to sell either Folarin Balogun or Camara and were confident the former was set to leave.
Everton were among the clubs keen on signing the Arsenal graduate, but the transfer collapsed on deadline day due to medical concerns.
Chelsea were disappointed by Monaco’s last-minute decision to block Camara’s transfer but could renew their interest.
The club has kept in regular contact with the midfielder’s representatives and may pursue his signature when the winter window opens.
Chelsea were ready to pay around £47m for Camara earlier this month, though Monaco may demand a higher fee in January.
