After a series of statements suggesting the Bears’ sole focus was a stadium in Indiana, the new statement keeps the door wide open for a stadium in Illinois.
Here is the complete statement released by the team on Friday:
“The Chicago Bears remain committed to constructing a world‑class stadium and mixed‑use district for fans, the Chicagoland community, and the team.
We are working collaboratively with local and state leaders in Indiana to advance stadium development plans in Hammond, where we are finalizing due diligence on two sites in the Wolf Lake area.
We also appreciate the recent engagement from Illinois leadership as they consider legislation that enables us to provide feedback.
We expect constructive dialogue with both leadership teams in the coming weeks. We have a responsibility to explore every option available to the club and look forward to creating a transformative project that will attract global events and generate jobs and economic growth throughout Chicagoland.
The statement follows a report eight days ago indicating that a deal is close on legislation to keep the team in Illinois. It also provides sufficient momentum to keep the Indiana option on the table, thereby maintaining pressure on Illinois to act.
